Outgoing President Note, Becky Russo/American Fasteners & Components
As we close out another year of successful MWFA stories I’d like to thank everyone for their support in 2011. We had a very successful year. It was an especially fun year as we celebrated the association’s 65th anniversary all year. We were able to design and launch a new website, we saw an increase in membership, we had increased attendance numbers in our events especially education seminars and we continue to enjoy many great networking opportunities.
I look forward to working with our new President, Matt Delawder from SWD Inc. His ambitions over the past years certainly indicate a desire to continue the outstanding success and growth of the Mid-West Fastener Association. As I’ve had the opportunity to serve as Director, Vice President and President, I can certainly tell you great efforts go into presenting valuable programs for our membership. I invite any members, interested, to join a committee or offer suggestions for future programs. Contact Nancy Rich at mwfa@ameritech.net and she’ll be happy to get you involved.

Matthew Delawder - SWD Inc.
I would like to start off by thanking the MWFA Board for all of your hard work, and the entire membership of the MWFA. It is truly an honor and a privilege to take on the responsibility of President for this great organization. I hope to be able to meet your needs and help our association to continue to grow and prosper. I would also like to thank our immediate past president, Becky Russo, for her guidance and commitment during the past year. Thank you to all of our past presidents, as I have been able to watch and learn invaluable lessons from each of you. I hope I can live up to the high standards you have set. I owe a special thanks to Nancy Rich, who has helped me on each committee I have been involved with. If she hadn’t suggested becoming a board member five years ago I might still have some free time, but it has all been worth it.
The next couple of years are going to be really exciting. For the past few years, even in one of the hardest economic times many of us have ever seen, our organization has continued to get stronger and build our membership. We have given away over $50,000.00, during these last tough years, in scholarships to people within our membership and their families. Through the help of Rich Peace, our education chair, we have added new classes and we are currently revising the MWFA Fastener Information Directory. Last year we started a new and what I hope to be long lasting relationship with NASF (National Association of Surface Finishers) and CMFI (Chicago Metal Finishers Institute). This allowed SUR/FIN to co-locate their show in June with Fastener Tech to expand our educational seminars and reach a wider audience. We are planning to host our shows together again in 2013. We are also reaching out to other trade organizations who serve a similar customer base with the hopes of continuing to grow the size and scope of the FastenerTech show. We are currently putting the final touches on the Midwest Fastener Expo and Golf Outing this June at a couple of new venues. One of my goals in the coming year is to facilitate partnering with other trade organizations to help our membership make new contacts and hopefully find new business prospects. I firmly believe that the MWFA is an industry leader, and by working with other organizations, we will be able to make connections and share resources so that we continue to improve. I know that many of our member companies belong to multiple associations. If you know of any organizations that would also like to consider having a joint meeting or sharing resources, please let me know. If you have any programs or speakers you would like to see, please let me know that as well. I hope to bring all our members a valuable experience at each MWFA event. I want you to look forward to each meeting for both the opportunity to network with your industry peers, as well the chance to gain new knowledge that can help you in your own business.
