I don’t know about you, but I feel this year is moving at a rapid pace. Whether it is the fact that you’re continuing to see increased sales, or that every order coming through is screaming hot, the year is flying. As I write this we are at the end of the first quarter and nearly everyone I have been talking to has seen an uptick in sales and in many cases looking to bring on more people. This is a far cry from where we were just a few years ago and because of that I think we are all a bit hesitant and wonder what to make of it. As I talk with people throughout our industry and read different economic reports, it appears that 2012 should continue to be a strong year for fastener use and production.
As I mentioned in the last newsletter the MWFA is looking to work together with other local and national trade organizations to share knowledge, increase awareness and create a stronger network of business relationships. We are also working more closely with other fastener trade organizations throughout the Nation in order to bring our members the best speakers as well as accurate and timely industry information that can affect us all. In February we hosted a joint meeting, with the Chicago Metal Finishers Institute CMFI and American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers, with over 100 attendees. For our March meeting we traveled to Milwaukee where we held a seminar on Social Media and how to best utilize it for yourself and your business. As of right now you can find the MWFA on Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter. We are hoping to start posting educational videos on YouTube as we continue to expand our digital presence.
We are currently putting together our plans for our Rockford meeting as well as a return trip to Milwaukee this summer to see the Chicago Cubs take on the Division Champion Milwaukee Brewers, so make sure your make plans to attend what should be another great event.
At this point our main focus is the upcoming MWFA Fastener Expo on Monday June 25. As of right now we only have 10 more spaces available and we expect to sell out. We are working frantically to try to free up more space so no one is left out. I am really looking forward to seeing all of you there. This year will include a number of “firsts” including the show location at Medinah Banquets in Addison. Before the show we will be offering a seminar that should really be helpful for Purchasing Managers and Buyers as well as Salespeople, “Safeguards against ordering wrong parts, and minimizing risk”. After the show the MWFA will be hosting the “Fastener Bash” at the Eaglewood Resort. This will also be your chance to warm up for the Golf Outing the following day during our Glow in the Dark Golf Tournament. This is also another first and I think it should be a ton of fun. Honestly just try to visualize this and you will not want to miss out. On Tuesday June 26th we have a 1pm shotgun start for the 60th Annual MWFA Golf Outing. at the Eaglewood GC in Itasca. As with all of our events there are sponsorships available, with the proceeds benefiting our annual scholarship fund.
I am really proud of the work the MWFA is doing this year and each of these events will be another opportunity to have fun with a great group of people.
